Set Up Informational Interviews
Once you’ve improved your skills, consider setting up some informational interviews. Unlike traditional interviews, informational interviews aren’t designed to score you a job. Instead, the goal is to learn more about a given field while making valuable connections. If you’re unsure where to start, look to your LinkedIn contacts or check out connections of friends (and friends of friends) on Facebook. For best results, choose at least three people who work in your industry and email or call them asking when you can have a quick meeting.
Hit the Boards
If one of your informational interviews doesn’t give you a lead on a position, it’s time to hit the job boards. Sites like Monster, Indeed, and even Craigslist let you search by various criteria, including job title and location, as well as keywords and phrases. Additionally, you can do a Google search to find niche job boards in your industry of choice, or contact a staffing company to speak to a recruiter.
