How to Keep from Overheating On-the-Job This Summer

Summer might only have begun on June 20, but plenty of cities are already feeling the burn. With temps rising across the country, employees are already seeking ways to beat the heat and stay cool on the job. Here are some of American StaffCorp’s top tips to help workers avoid overheating this summer:

Turn Off the Lights

Does your office have a bad habit of leaving on lights, computers, and other appliances when they aren’t in use? If so, you and your co-workers could be making things hotter than they have to be. Instead of generating unwanted heat and wasting energy, ask your fellow workers to turn off tech when it’s not in use. Additionally, you can shut curtains and shades and turn overhead lights down or off during the brightest parts of the day.

Drink Up

Staying hydrated is crucial on hot days, and no, that five-a-day coffee habit doesn’t count. If you want to stay cool in the heat, strive to drink several glasses of water a day. For best results, keep a large mug or water bottle by your desk and refill it whenever you see the bottom of the container. Still feeling the burn? Apply a little cool water to your forehead and pulse points to lower your body temperature and boost comfort.

Eat Light

Big mid-day meals might be satisfying, but they can also make you feel all too warm during the summer. Instead, opt to eat a few lighter meals when temperatures are high. Fruits and veggies make great snacks, as do cheese sticks, low-sugar peanut butter, and yogurt.
